Busy Lamp Field (BLF) feature

Updated 6 months ago by Jane

BLF is an acronym for Busy Lamp Field, which is a light on an IP Phone or a colored indicator next to a name in a softphone or web client, that tells you whether another extension connected to the same PBX is busy or not.

This feature allows a Monitor Account/Extension to see the status of other extensions. By activating this function, the user will be able to:

  • Check if another extension is currently on a call
  • See if there’s an incoming call to other extensions, and
  • If unanswered, User will be able to pick up the call of another extension

Configuration

  • Legend
    • sipAAAA = Main Account - the account that can see status of other accounts.
    • sipBBBB = Monitored Account - the account who status is monitored.
  • Set up the SIP accounts, either via manual or auto-provisioning. Both main and monitored account should be configured in advance.
  • Set up IP Phone Function Keys (see below)

Set up FANVIL IP phone function keys

Result

Once everything is set up, User should be able to see the monitored extensions on their IP phone:

  • When a call comes in to the monitored extension, the indicator light will start blinking.
  • Once the call is answered, the indicator light will turn red until done.
  • If not answered, user can pick up the call simply by pressing on the blinking key.
